Egg sales were made throughout the local area and regular trips were made to the Indianapolis Farmers Market from the main farms in southern Indiana. As consumer needs changed during the 1980s and 1990s, so did the variety of egg products offered by Rose Acres. As we moved to the close of the century, Rose Acres had established plants in Indiana, Iowa, Missouri, Georgia and North Carolina. In addition, two plants in Illinois followed shortly into the twenty first century.
From a small handful of employees in the 1950s to over 1820 employees today, Rose Acres continues to remain on the cutting edge of this ever changing industry. Remaining the largest family owned egg plant in the United States, continued innovation and market demand promise a bright future for our employees and customers.
Just for fun...did you know?
- An average hen lays 300 to 325 eggs a year. A hen starts laying eggs at 19 weeks of age.
- To produce one egg, it takes a hen 24-26 hours, and to do so, she requires 5 oz. of food and 10 oz. of water. Thirty minutes later she starts all over again.
- As a hen grows older she produces larger eggs.
- About 240 million laying hens produce some 50 billion eggs each year in the United States. That's roughly one hen for every man, women and child in the country.
